We meet each Friday morning, 9.30am to 1.00pm, to carry out practical work in the Wood, including tree planting and clearance, improving public access, wildlife surveys, monitoring nest-boxes and other tasks to assist the Management Plan for the Wood. We also meet on the first Sunday in each month, 9.30am to 1.00pm.<\/p>\n<p>The scope of our activities embraces:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nature Conservation<\/li>\n<li>Habitat Management<\/li>\n<li>Wildlife Surveys<\/li>\n<li>Footpath and Access Maintenance<\/li>\n<li>Community Relations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Although we are very informal, we have formed ourselves into an association, &#8216;The Friends of Northaw Great Wood&#8217;, so that we might be able to create funds to aid this work.\u00a0 We also meet socially every 2 months.<\/p>\n<h2>Achievements<\/h2>\n<p>Since we were set up, we have accomplished many improvements in the Wood, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Way-mark posts and signage improved<\/li>\n<li>Paths widened<\/li>\n<li>Coloured trails re-routed<\/li>\n<li>Glades restored<\/li>\n<li>Pond restored<\/li>\n<li>Guided walks arranged<\/li>\n<li>Non-native Rhododendron reduced<\/li>\n<li>Oak saplings planted<\/li>\n<li>Wildlife and vegetation surveys carried out<\/li>\n<li>Surplus wood sold for fire logs<\/li>\n<li>Memorial benches built<\/li>\n<li>New benches and picnic tables assembled and installed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Trail Widening<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Many paths in the wood had become very overgrown and narrow. This tended to make the paths muddy.
